Linguistic Research and Language Development
Language is at the heart of who people are, it carries culture, identity, and wisdom passed down through generations. Our Linguistic Research and Language Development work lays the foundation for effective Bible translation, literacy, and long-term language preservation.
Partnering With Communities
We partner with communities across Cameroon to study and document their languages, many of which have never been written before. Our teams conduct linguistic analyses to understand each language’s sounds, grammar, and vocabulary, then help develop writing systems (orthographies) that enable people to read and write in their mother tongue.
Working With Local Speakers
Beyond research, we work closely with local speakers to produce literacy materials, dictionaries, and language guides, strengthening both communication and cultural identity. This process not only supports Bible translation but also ensures that these languages continue to grow, adapt, and thrive for future generations.
Every Language Matters
Through linguistic research, CABTAL celebrates Cameroon’s rich linguistic diversity and empowers communities to take pride in their language, because every language matters, and every voice deserves to be heard.
